I lived in Shanghai China for over 3 years beginning in early 1997 and while living there I developed a keen appreciation of the beauty and versatility of pearl jewelry.
As my interest in pearl jewelry-making developed and while still in China, I was able to visit local freshwater pearl farms and purchase components directly from pearl markets in Suzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Now, freshwater pearls and other components, such as clasps, crystals and gemstones have been selected from first quality vendors in Shanghai, Hong Kong and throughout North America.
Upon returning home to the USA in 2000 I determined that there was a demand for custom-made quality pearl jewelry in the USA and I formed Pearls by Helen to promote my creations. I have displayed my designs for several years at various shows in Vancouver, Portland, at the “Artists in the Vineyard” shows in Ridgefield and on-line at PearlsbyHelen.com.
While all of my designs incorporate pearls, I use many other components such as crystals, semi-precious gemstones, sterling silver findings, etc. to create custom necklace, bracelet and earring designs that you won’t find in any retail stores.
